The Follarasca Fair animates the bridge of All Saints in Ainsa. Follarasca, the Autumn Fair of the Pyrenees, has closed this Saturday in Ainsa a fifth edition where the favorable weather and the bridge of All Saints have allowed the constant influx of people to the tent installed in the courtyard of the Castle. Workshops for families, a healthy snack and more than twenty stalls have served as a meeting point between consumers and local producers, becoming an event called to become an unmissable event for locals and tourists at this time of year. Nougat, bread and pastries from Naval, nuts from Gurrea de Gállego, cosmetics from Labuerda, and apples, juice and jams from Aínsa were some of the products that could be bought from 11 am until late afternoon in the Medieval Village. In addition, activities and demonstrations have been carried out to make the area more dynamic, together with the exhibition of beekeeping tools and the Sobrarbe Hen contest, which has reached its third edition thanks to the essential collaboration of the AGASOB Association. “We are very pleased with the large number of visitors thanks to the long weekend and the good weather”, said the councilor and Follarasca coordinator, Susana Pérez, at the end of the event. The organization estimates that about 3,500 people have passed through this fair in which, in view of all attendees, has produced apple juice and flour in organic, plus sheets of beeswax. “The fair is taking hold,” continues Perez. “We recall that it was born in 2019 with the aim of creating a meeting space between consumers and agroecological and proximity producers. Today we can confirm that it has become an expected appointment. Sales have gone very well and the workshops by way of closure in collaboration with the School Garden and the Council of Children and Youth have been a success, “he concludes. It should be noted that this edition has included as a novelty a preamble of film and debate on the primary sector in collaboration with the Network of Municipalities for Agroecology. The coordinator of the Network, Jorge Molero, explained that despite the problems in the rural environment (pollution, use of pesticides or loss of biodiversity), “the documentaries we saw show that from agroecology there are many options for the proper development of the territories. That is what we try to transmit from the Network”. Molero assures that the municipality of Aínsa-Sobrarbe is very aware of this aspect. “In the subsequent debate we stressed the need for the citizens themselves to take the reins, to get involved and contribute, with the support of their municipalities, to the transformation of people’s lives”. The Network of Municipalities for Agroecology, of which Aínsa holds the presidency, has also participated with an information booth inside the tent. Follarasca has been held in Aínsa since 2019 with the collaboration of the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture (FCQ), the association of market gardeners Arto-Un Paso Atrás, Turismo Verde Huesca, the Altoaragonesa Association for the Selection of the Black Bee (ASAN) and the City Council of Aínsa. It was born as part of the cooperation project Pro-Sobrarbe, and has been maintained to continue giving visibility to local producers, to value traditional working methods and to increase the fair calendar of the municipality. Sobrarbe Hen Awards.
The city council closes the activity reaffirming its commitment to the local agri-food sector. In the words of the mayor, Enrique Pueyo, “the primary sector is a cross-cutting strategic axis that links the inhabitants of the territory with the travelers who visit us. Its work translates into better food for those who live here, in the generation of jobs and in the maintenance of our biodiversity, while providing extra quality and positioning itself as the ideal complement to our tourism model”.
