Jaca to host a Pyrenean congress on the Canal Roya from April 17-19, by El Pirineo Aragonés.
Jaca will host a Pyrenean congress on the Canal Roya next spring, from April 17-19, with the aim of creating a forum for debate and reflection on the protection of this area and its surroundings. The event seeks to provide technical, scientific, and political tools for future conservation management within a sustainable model that, according to the organizers, reconciles the preservation of a unique landscape with the right of future generations to remain and thrive in the valleys. The congress will take place at the Jacetania regional headquarters and is organized by a technical committee comprised of experts from the scientific, technical, legal, and environmental fields, as well as residents of the Pyrenees. The call for participation, as stated in the press release, stems from the importance of Canal Roya as a natural and cultural heritage site and the threats arising from its lack of protected status. The Astún-Formigal cable car project, whose development was halted following public outcry, is cited as a precedent. Initial information, including a first draft of the program, can be found on the congress website (https://canalroyacongreso.org/), where registration will also open in February.
