Cooperation project “AUTONOMOUS AND SUSTAINABLE SOBRARBE”.

The Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture (FCQ) and the Aragonese Association of Pyrenean Breed Cattle Breeders (ASAPI), join forces with the support of the Aínsa Town Council, owner of the municipal slaughterhouse, the University of Zaragoza and the Sobrarbe Businessmen Association to encourage the consumption of Pyrenean Breed meat km 0, born, raised and slaughtered in Sobrarbe itself, thus facilitating contributions to the necrophagous bird feeder managed by the FCQ in Aínsa and closing a circle of development and sustainability that encompasses livestock farming, catering and environmental conservation.

Pilot project for innovation and sustainable development through the recovery of endangered species 2009 – 2012

The Pilot Project "Innovation and sustainable development through the recovery of endangered species", financed by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs within the framework of the National Rural Network, is presented as a work initiative that aims to activate innovative mechanisms of social promotion capable of promoting sustainable rural development initiatives linked to the conservation of endangered species. The main objective of this project was to create the necessary environmental conditions for the permanent establishment of the Bearded Vulture specimens present in the mountainous environment of the Picos de Europa.

LIFE Project (2002 – 2005): recovery of the Bearded Vulture in the Picos de Europa.

The Bearded Vulture became extinct in the Picos de Europa in the mid-20th century, with the last reproduction data dating back to the 1960s. The main objective of this project was to create the necessary environmental conditions for the permanent establishment of the Bearded Vulture specimens present in the mountainous environment of the Picos de Europa.

Rescue, breeding, release and monitoring program for Bearded Vultures in the Pyrenees and Picos de Europa

In all natural populations of birds of prey there are reproductive units whose productivity, understood as chicks flown/year, is zero or practically zero. In the case of the bearded vulture, the current recovery plans in the Pyrenean Mountains contemplate specific actions to avoid repeated events of reproductive failure. The Bearded Vulture Working Group (Ministry of the Environment) developed a management protocol for the extraction of bearded vulture specimens from the natural environment.

Necromederos Program: supplementary feeding of necrophagous birds

The FCQ promoted the implementation of a bearded vulture feeder in the Cañones and Sierra de Guara Natural Park (Vadiello-Huesca) in 2001, of a necrophagous bird feeder (griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, red kite and bearded vulture) in Aínsa-Sobrarbe (Huesca) in 2009 and a bearded vulture feeder in the Picos de Europa in Mirador de la Reina (Asturias) in 2015. Currently, the feeders in Aínsa and Mirador de the Queen.

Seguimarc Program: monitoring of marked Bearded Vultures

The SEGUIMARC program consists of the application of capture, marking and tracking techniques with the bearded vulture. In 1992, the FCQ and the Government of Aragon launched a program to capture and mark bearded vultures, through which a total of 150 specimens have been marked.

Environmental education program: get to know the Pyrenean nature (Aínsa – Huesca)

The program proposes to publicize the natural environment (biodiversity, ecosystems, protected spaces...) and the actions of man in relation to the territory (art, architecture, traditional crafts...). The activities take place in the Eco Museum managed by the FCQ in the Aínsa Castle (Huesca) and its surroundings.
