VARCRIQ Program: surveillance of the Bearded Vulture critical areas.
The Critical Area (CA) managers are a network of FCQ volunteers who collaborate in the conservation of the bearded vulture through the monitoring, identification and communication of threats that may occur in the CA.
There can be several people in charge of the same CA, who will communicate by email (varcriq@quebrantahuesos.org) the possible threats.
Thanks to this, it will be possible to carry out actions and management for the conservation of the CAs, and it is not essential to have ornithological knowledge to be part of this program.
Knowing and frequently visiting the CAs are the main requirements that every person in charge must fulfill, and their main function is to alert the FCQ of any threat that may affect the CA. The objectives of the VARCRIQ program are:
- Monitor the state of conservation of the CAs.
- Take actions and steps to stop threats to CAs.
- To make an annual report on the state of the CA with the threats suffered and the actions and recommendations made for their solution, which will be posted in the environmental defense section of the FCQ: Observatory of the Bearded Vulture Mountains.
- Inform collaborators of the results of bearded vulture reproduction in each CA.
The program is financed by FCQ’s own funds.
