Success and full house to make Anayeta happy.

Success and full house to make Anayeta happy.

3,500 people and nearly twenty artists gathered on Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall of Zaragoza to make it clear in the Canal Roya Fest that the Pyrenees is not sold, that the Pyrenees is defended Just over 19.30 pm were when the lines began to presage that it was going to be an unforgettable night. Impeccable collaboration of volunteers who did an excellent job to make the access was orderly and fast before the avalanche of solidarity that pushed 3,500 people. The Platform in Defense of the Mountains of Aragon (PDMA), organizer of the festival with the support of the main environmental organizations, had very clear the three objectives of the night. First to get the response of artists to fill the stage, that was more than fulfilled seeing the great line-up that was there. Second to get the response of society to fill the hall, everything was sold out. And finally and most importantly, to get the response of the Government of Aragon to declare the Anayet Natural Park and not to fear for the future of this wonderful natural area, which is still in the spotlight. Pending objective. The festival began with Angel Petisme and a “message of love for our mountains, life and Canal Roya”; and continued with La Ronda de Boltaña that was especially vindictive with languages, the Pyrenees and an Aragon that we all dream. Along with their lyrics and melodies, there was also time to remember the 43rd and the recent repeal of the Law of Memory. After them Joaquín Pardinilla Sexteto gave a little break and allowed us to enjoy their usual virtuosity, to catch the tremendous energy of Viki Lafuente who as always was a whirlwind of talent and voice.

“Canal Roya is not for sale”

After this first block of performances, a representation of the entities that promoted the concert read a manifesto: “Good evening Canal Roya Fest. On behalf of the Platform in Defense of the Mountains of Aragon and all organizations and individuals who compose it we want to welcome you all and thank you. Thanks to all the artists who are participating for love of Canal Roya and the Pyrenees and making the festival possible. Thanks also to the countless artists who have wanted to participate but have not been possible due to time constraints or schedules. Thanks to the impressive number of technicians and dozens of volunteers who from the organization are making the success of the summit of this festival. And of course, thanks to all of you who are crowding tonight the Multipurpose room. A full house, a complete success. Without forgetting, in the face of such a success, to all the people who wanted to be there but could not because of full capacity or personal circumstances. Thank you all the same. “We are sure that Anayeta and Canal Roya also thank you for feeling defended by a crowd against those who want to destroy them. The same as Castanesa, a wonderful valley in a similar situation. Tonight’s success joins the already achieved in spring, and reinforces the idea that Aragonese society cries out, today also with music and a wonderful soundtrack, the need for Canal Roya, that Castanesa, once and for all, are protected and free from threats. Canal Roya is protected, not destroyed. We will achieve its protection within the Anayet Natural Park, we will not relent until we get it. For a Pyrenees without speculation! Neither in Canal Roya nor in Castanesa! For Canal Roya protected!” concluded the manifesto that was answered with a deafening “Canal Roya is not for sale” intoned by the 3,500 throats that filled the Multipurpose.

“Where you see future, they see business.”

Then came the turn of Sara Socas and her incredible stage companions, a luxury of representation, feminism and continuous vindication. Leaving stereotypes and making us dance marked the performance of the Canary Islander and her band, who came to Zaragoza with their first album under their arm “TFN-MAD”. After her, a representative of the best rap from Zaragoza, Rapsusklei “always supporting noble causes”. He also spoke about Palestine and the six of Zaragoza – struggles very present throughout the festival thanks to the projections – in the little less than 20 minutes that he was on stage and in which sounded some advance of his latest album, “Lágrimas”. Ixo Rai! appeared later to tell us not to stay without entering, a few minutes of performance that, as always happens with this group, taste like little because we always want more. There was time to dance, to claim and to remember that Aragon was the shame of Iberduero and now in 2024 we have a lot to fight for. “Canal Roya is not for sale”, was the message of Ixo Rai! to Javier Lambán, “you started it”, and to Jorge Azcón to whom they also sent a “here we speak Aragonese and Catalan”. Along with them, Jesús Cifuentes “Cifu” from Celtas Cortos also contributed his songs -among them the mythical “20 de abril”- and support for the protection of Canal Roya, as well as the defense of public services and culture against a fascism that wants to sweep away everything. The three rappers from Zaragoza Furelguti & Krevi Solenco & Manu Haller managed to make vibrate a devoted Multiusos. “Where you see snow, they see business. Where you see future, they see business”, rapped on stage this league of justice. After them, Con-fusas and Aurora Beltrán -unmistakable voice of Tahúres Zurdos- claimed to see the smiling Anayet and therefore also contributed their music. In the final stretch of the Canal Roya Fest, after almost six hours of concerts, L’Asia & Mendas del Cierzo took the stage. In their last song, just released, L’Asia describes how “fusing and enjoying defend through music the pleasure of creating from the union and respect leaving aside the competition to embrace the good vibes through reggae”. Throughout the night DJ Luna Roja and DJ Pendejo acclimated the changes and were responsible for closing the big party in defense of the Pyrenean valley that took place on Saturday. It is worth mentioning the work and attention of all those who had to do with the production of the event and who demonstrated that a common goal moves a lot and moves well. The Pyrenees belong to all of us, not just a few, so we will continue to defend what we love so that no one can speculate with the common wealth of all the people of Aragon.
