The Sobrarbe Expoferia awards the Garcés family for being an example of circular economy.

The closure of the Bielsa tunnel due to the floods affected the influx of French visitors to the event in Ainsa.
Aínsa closed this Sunday the XXXIX Sobrarbe Expoferia, strengthening ties between consumers and local producers, the main objective of an event designed to enhance the value of professionals in the primary sector in the area.
An example of this were the tastings of 0 km meats, which filled the available capacity in the four passes offered during the weekend, and the lunch-auction with a hundred diners.
The auctioned dishes were prepared by the restaurants Casa Fes, Pádel Life y +, Hotel Sánchez, Casa Alfonso, Callizo y Alberto from Aínsa, Casa Falceto from Coscojuela de Sobrarbe, Casa Cuello from Morillo de Tou and Bodegas de Clavería from La Fueva.
The Good Agricultural and Livestock Practices Award was also presented to the Garcés family from San Vicente de Labuerda.
“They raise sheep in extensive farming, are dedicated to agriculture and run a restaurant working organically, without chemicals, as did their grandparents,” said Susana Perez, councilor and coordinator of the Expoferia, at the award ceremony.
“They are an example of circular economy. They have opted for a business model that closes the cycle of agricultural and livestock production.
What comes from the land goes to their restaurant, avoiding waste and intermediaries.
David and Antonio assure that continuing with the family tradition has been a dream come true, and for all these reasons the Expoferia committee considers them to be highly deserving of this award”, he added.
The prize for the ‘Sobrarbe market garden baskets’ contest was also awarded to a very young Vera Bescós, as well as the different categories of the log sawing championship, in which, year after year, the participation of women and children has increased.
The presence of the family public was also very notable thanks to the wooden games installed at the entrance to the castle and an innovative gymkhana to raise awareness of local consumption and bring the world of livestock and agriculture closer to the youngest. “We have fulfilled the quintessential objective of this Expoferia: to support the agricultural and livestock sector of the region. The activities organized around the approach to the consumer of agri-food products have been a success.
As an example, the tastings of meat from the extensive livestock farming in Sobrarbe and the auction lunch, where we have received a hundred attendees and tasted dishes made with products from the local livestock farming and orchards”, valued the coordinator, “so we will continue working in this line, always in tune with the needs of livestock breeders and farmers in the county”.
In the same vein, the mayor, Enrique Pueyo, said that the Sobrarbe Expoferia has once again met expectations, “even though the weather did not help at the beginning and that made people prefer to stay at home. Saturday and Sunday made up for a wet start, although we missed the French visitors. With the road cut in Parzán has been impossible to get here and that has been very noticeable,” he lamented, wishing to fix the road as soon as possible, since it is a fundamental way for Ainsa and Sobrarbe throughout both from the economic point of view as from the social.
This Expoferia has gone ahead again thanks to the support of local, provincial and regional institutions and organizations, and also with the collaboration of about twenty volunteers.
Aínsa is already looking forward to its festivities in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which will take place from September 12 to 15, and also to the national assembly of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain, which will be held jointly with Alquézar and Roda de Isábena from November 21 to 24.
In the words of the mayor, “the presence of the association in this fair has also been useful to advance in this great meeting that we are preparing with great enthusiasm, as well as all the events that we have left to celebrate in the last months of the year and that provide dynamism to the town beyond the summer season.”
