The president was accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco. The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco, has visited this Wednesday, March 6, the Center for the Recovery and Breeding of the Bearded Vulture in Human Isolation (CRIAH), located in the Finca de the Alfrancain Zaragoza. The president, who went to the place at 10.30 a.m., visited the facilities together with the counselor and the director of the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture, Gerardo Báguena . Later, at 10.45 a.m., they accessed the restricted area for bearded vulture hatchlings, where they attended a feeding demonstration. Then, at 11.00, from the upper floor of the building and through mirror-glasses, they saw the lammergeyers of the center. Azcón underlined the significant progress in the conservation of this species, emphasizing the remarkable increase in the number of breeding pairs and the crucial role of Aragon in the preservation of biodiversity in Spain. Azcón took the opportunity to “thank the work of all the staff and all the people who have been working in this center for decades”, as well as the staff of the General Directorate of the Government of Aragon and the Environment Area. He highlighted the growth of producing pairs from 38 in 1994 to more than 90 at present, and how this has allowed around 400 bearded vultures to thrive in the autonomous community. The president stressed the importance of inter-autonomic collaboration, pointing out that without the joint effort, endangered species such as the bearded vulture would not survive in other parts of Spain. He mentioned the successful cooperation with communities such as Cantabria, Castilla y León, Asturias, and recently Andalusia, as examples of Aragon’s commitment to environmental conservation. Regarding future projects and the importance of biodiversity, Azcón expressed his desire to “give visibility” to the successes achieved, reiterating the commitment of the Government of Aragón to conservation and the commitment to projects related to the environment. “It is very important that the different autonomous communities collaborate in biodiversity projects,” he said. In addition, the president addressed current issues, criticizing Minister Planas for his recent statement, urging him to concentrate on solving the problems of farmers and ranchers, and he maintained a cautious stance on potential business investments in the region, emphasizing the importance of confirming such investments before making public comments. As regards infrastructures, he called for a boost to the Cantabrian-Mediterranean corridor, highlighting the strategic importance of Aragon in the logistics sector and the need to maintain the pace of development in communication infrastructures.
