The Nature Protection Council addressed the implementation of renewables in Aragon.
The event took place on September 23, 2024 in the auditorium of the Joaquín Roncal building (Zaragoza) and was attended by experts and technicians from the Administration. FCQ was present in the audience. The Council for the Protection of Nature of Aragon (CPNA) held a round table on the future of the implementation of renewable energies in Aragon. The event, open to the public, counted with the intervention of José Luis Simón, Professor of Geology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza; Jesús Alijarde, President of the Sustainability and Environment Commission of the Energy Cluster of Aragon; Mario Rodríguez, Associate Director of Just Transition and Global Alliances of the Economy and Development Foundation (ECODES); Víctor Manuel Sanz, Head of the Territorial Strategies Service of the Government of Aragon and María Yolanda Vallés, Director General of Energy and Mines of the Government of Aragon. According to data from the Government of Aragon, Aragon currently has 182 wind farms in operation (2,600 windmills). A further 63 have been granted prior and construction authorization and another 69 have been admitted for processing. With respect to solar energy, 152 photovoltaic farms are currently in operation in the region and another 255 have already been granted construction authorization. Both activities will place Aragon in 2023 as the fourth region in terms of renewable energy generation.
