The Maestrazgo and Els Ports cluster, under the magnifying glass of Justice.
The TSJM admits the complaint against the ministry of entities, municipalities and neighbors. The so-called Maestrazgo Cluster – whose evacuation power line would cross from Iglesuela del Cid(Teruel) the municipalities of Portell, Cinctorres and Morella – is under the magnifying glass of Justice. The Contentious Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) has admitted the appeal filed against the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge by the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture, the Platform No to the MAT Comarques de Castelló, the Citizen Movement Teruel Existe and the Platform for the Landscapes of Teruel, along with affected individuals.
The entities value that “after a period of obscurantism, with contradictory data on what was intended to be done and with secret meetings between the company and some administrations”, they learned about the project, “which consisted of approximately 42,000 pages and took an arduous work of study and analysis” to formulate the relevant allegations, “which were never answered by the company, nor by the Ministry”. Several months later, the Environmental Impact Statement compatible with this project was published , which is the largest project ever approved in Spain, “to the surprise of almost everyone, since it is located in one of the most environmentally valuable areas of the country”, they add. Subsequently, the previous Administrative Authorization was published and appeals were filed, “which were neither answered nor taken into account. After the mandatory two months had passed, and with no time limit due to the administration not having replied, an administrative appeal has been filed as a last resort”, they explain. The participation of the Platform No to the MAT Comarques de Castelló is due to the fact that the MAT of the cluster would cross Portell, Cinctorres and Morella. These municipalities joined the filing of the lawsuit for “strong affection” in their municipalities. Among the affected individuals who filed the appeal is the Teruel businessman Salvador Arenere, due to the effect on his hotel Mas de Cebrián, located in Puertomingalvo (Teruel). This accommodation was the first in the Comunitat and Aragón to obtain the certification of the Starlight Foundation, which is granted to establishments that enjoy a special enclave and low light pollution, for the contemplation and interpretation of the stars. And in 2023 it was awarded the medal for tourism merit by the Government of Aragon.
