One thousand schoolchildren approach the bearded vulture.

The Colectivo Azálvaro has reached a thousand schoolchildren in the province of Avila with an educational program on the bearded vulture. It has done so, in collaboration with the Diputación de Ávila and the Fundación para la Conservación del Quebrantahuesos, with the educational resource ‘Galana, la quebrantahuesos que soñaba con volar acompañada’, in reference to one of the specimens that have been released in the Sierra de Gredos. This program has reached more than 1,000 schoolchildren in the province, awakening in them an interest in biodiversity and the importance of conserving the bearded vulture and its natural habitat, according to the Colectivo Azálvaro. Framed in the LIFE Project ‘Iberian Corridors for the Bearded Vulture’ and supported by the 3rd Environmental Education Strategy of Castilla y León for 2024-2030, the resource has fulfilled the objective of raising awareness among young people about the protection of the environment, in line with the principles of ecological transition and sustainable development promoted in the community.

Didactic models

Since the beginning of this program, the environmental education team of the Colectivo Azálvaro has worked to create an “enriching and multidisciplinary” experience, which includes interactive presentations, activity booklets illustrated by Mónica Carretero, craft workshops and an outdoor educational treasure hunt. Students have been able to learn not only about the bearded vulture, but also about the other three species of Iberian vultures, thanks to the didactic models created by the artist Rubén Arrabal and the display of a photocall with a wingspan. These tools have made it possible for participants to tangibly experience the ecological value of these species and the importance of their conservation. Irene Jara, head of the education area of Colectivo Azálvaro, points out that with this resource we wanted “not only to transmit knowledge, but also to inspire future generations to care for and protect the natural environment”. This project represents a continuation of our environmental and educational commitment, which began with the resource ‘Reciclaves: Recycling vultures on the move’,
