Diners who order a recipe with Ternasco de Aragón in some restaurants in the provinces of Huesca and Teruel will receive a voucher for a visit.
Anyone who orders Ternasco de Aragón in some restaurants in the provinces of Huesca and Teruel during the month of August will automatically receive a voucher to exchange for a free guided tour.
Thus, the Regulatory Council of this Protected Geographical Indication is once again activating its summer promotions in these two provinces, with the aim of encouraging the consumption of this recipe among tourists visiting Aragon in August.
Once the card is received, it is necessary to confirm the reservation by telephone beforehand, at least two hours in advance.
The number of places is limited to small groups, so that the visits are more personalized and without crowds, adapting them to the pace of the group.
This action is carried out in collaboration with with the Provincial Council of Teruel and the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture.
They will be in the city of Teruel or Rubielos de Mora.
-as a novelty this year, and the EcoMuseum of Ainsa, depending on the province.
The participating establishments are members of the Ternasco de Aragón Club, those that the indication selects for being faithful to Ternasco in their menus, cooking it and prescribing it correctly.
Most of these restaurants offer Ternasco de Aragón roasted in the traditional way, with its baker’s potatoes, or different versions of the roast in ingot or taco.
“It is vital for our national promotion that those who visit us know where they can consume with guarantee the most recognized product of our region, and that, if they like it, they can buy it here to take it home or directly at its place of origin, either online or at a nearby point of sale,” says Patricio Pérez, secretary of the Regulatory Council of the Ternasco de Aragón PGI. In Teruel, visits take place from Tuesday to Saturday and there is a choice of two different times -at 10.00 or 18.00-.
The meeting point is the emblematic Plaza del Torico.
From there and in a relaxed way begins the walk that lasts about 90 minutes, through the streets of the City of the Lovers and the Mudejar, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco since 1986.
In this way, gastronomy and heritage are combined, savoring the city with all the senses.
While in Rubielos de Mora the visits are from Thursday to Sunday -except for August 24 and 25 because it is a medieval weekend-.
And you can also choose morning -12.00- or afternoon -17.00-.
The visit begins in the courtyard of the town hall and goes through the historic village, full of ancestral homes and small palaces.
It also lasts about 90 minutes. In the EcoMuseum of Ainsa you can learn and understand the behavior of the Bearded Vulture and other birds of prey of the Aragonese Pyrenees, and the outstanding work being developed in recent years by the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture (FCQ), an entity that manages the project and has been collaborating for years in this promotional action. The guided visits will take place every day of the week -until September 15- from 10.30 to 14.30 and from 15.30 to 20.30, and have a duration of one hour.
This synergy is an extension of the collaboration that FCQ has with Pastores, by which about 200 kilos of bones are donated weekly, thus contributing to the survival of these endangered birds.
Since 2018, 60,000 kilos have already been donated.
Óscar Díez, president of the FCQ, insisted on a recent press trip to Aínsa (which already advanced this promotion) of the importance of this collaboration and to make it visible.
That for them “a shepherd is as important as the bearded vulture itself, that there is a very close association between mountains, shepherds and bearded vultures”.
The promotional action of the province of Huesca is co-financed by the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Government of Aragon.
