Seguimarc Program: monitoring of marked Bearded Vultures

The SEGUIMARC program consists of the application of capture, marking and tracking techniques with the bearded vulture. In 1992, the FCQ and the Government of Aragon launched a program to capture and mark bearded vultures, through which a total of 150 specimens have been marked. To do this, individuals are equipped with the classic marking materials used in other endangered species programs: rings, wing bands, and radio or satellite transmitters. Thanks to this program, it has been possible to find out different aspects about the biology and demography of the species, which have been contributed in different scientific publications and which have served for the proper management of the species: knowledge of the age of first reproduction, longevity of the specimens, sex ratio, genetic status of the population, survival rates, causes of mortality, juvenile dispersal, natal dispersal, breeding adult breeding areas, health status of the population, etc. The program is developed by FCQ technicians (terrestrial monitoring, satellites and fixed radio-tracking stations) and volunteers from forestry agents, naturalists, ornithologists, etc. participate. Collaborate with the program sending information on sightings of marked bearded vultures.
